Breast cancer

Annually, 1,200 women and men with breast cancer are diagnosed and treated by our breast services, one of the largest specialist centres in the country.

Broomfield (as part of the Chelmsford and Colchester breast screening service) and Southend Hospitals host screening assessment whilst symptomatic services are supported on all three units, seeing 15,000 urgent suspected cancer referrals per year.

Reconstruction is supported by the world-renowned St Andrew’s centre at Broomfield Hospital.

Open Access Follow Up (OAFU)/Personalised Stratified Follow Up (PSFU)

Our ‘follow ups’ are designed to support you when you have completed your treatments for up to five years. This allows you to access the breast team as and when needed.

Routine follow-up imaging is arranged by your consultant or open access nurse and the results are sent to you by letter along with future scan appointments.

Treatments are given at our cancer centre based at Southend Hospital.
