Research and development

Our mission is to provide easy to access, high quality research opportunities to the patients and public who use our health services.

An illustration of a network of circles and people in trust light blue to showcase the Trust's Research and Development teamWe believe that all patients should feel supported and empowered to take part in high-quality research.

We deliver cutting-edge research which helps us to shape new models of healthcare to improve patient safety and care. This can be a variety of health conditions ranging from asthma to renal problems.

Our research can be investigating the use of the latest medicines and medical devices or looking at the prevention of health problems by collecting questionnaires or blood samples.

About our research

We define original research as research that is ‘developed and sponsored by our Trust’.

International Clinical Trials Day – 20 May

International Clinical Trials Day takes place on 20 May every year to mark the anniversary of the first recognised clinical trial aboard a naval ship in 1747.

The day is an opportunity to reflect on the years contributions to advancing healthcare, bringing together research organisations, professionals, and the public to showcase the years achievements.

To celebrate this, the research team host events across the Trust.

Red4Research

#Red4Research brings together all those participating, supporting, and undertaking research.

On the front line and behind the scenes, incredible research teams collectively work on health and social care research. The research and development (R&D) community are innovative, flexible and dynamic.

Research doesn’t just happen though, people make it happen – research participants, patients, professionals, volunteers and regulatory bodies all work together.

#Red4Research Day is an annual event that aims to get as many people as possible wearing red to demonstrate their support and appreciation for all those taking part and supporting research. It’s an opportunity to showcase and celebrate the phenomenal work, learning legacy and innovative treatments, systems, techniques that have arisen from R&D.

To mark this day, you may see our team wearing red and hosting information stands across the Trust. It’s a great opportunity to come and speak to us about research and learn more about the projects taking place across the Trust. There will also be some freebies and thank you cards to acknowledge the contribution of all our research participants.
