Are you a research nurse or midwife looking to advance your career?
If so, the Principal Investigator Pipeline Programme offered by the National Institute for Health and Care Research is an excellent free career development opportunity that you should consider.
PIPP is available to research nurses and midwives working in primary, secondary or community care settings.
It aims to equip you with the necessary theoretical knowledge, leadership skills and practical experience to become a principal investigator responsible for conducting research at a site.
By participating in PIPP, you will gain the skills to lead research studies and coordinate delivery teams.
It will also contribute to your professional development by building on your research expertise.
The programme comprises of four elements. Element one gives an overview of the principal investigator role and responsibilities and
is largely theory based. Element two offers hands on experience by allowing you to work alongside a local principal investigator to undertake specific research related activities.
Element three allows an opportunity to practice independently as a principal investigator whilst participating in some recommended learning activities. And element four focuses on leadership and mentorship, enabling you to support other research nurses and midwives in their principal investigator development and act as an advocate for the PIPP.
Upon completion of each element you'll receive a certificate that recognises your achievement and supports your development to become a research delivery leader.
To access the programme, you'll need your line manager's approval and the support of a local principal investigator to work alongside.
You'll also need to identify NIHR studies to work on during the program.
Don't miss out on this opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills and become a principal investigator of the future.
