Basildon Research Unit
The Basildon research teams are resident in the Robert Brown Post-Graduate centre and the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre, at the Basildon Hospital
In 2001 the Robert Brown Postgraduate Centre became the home for the Research and Development department.
Today our research teams support a range of interventional and observational studies across a wide range of specialities.
In 2007 the then Prime Minister Gordon Brown opened the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre (ECTC).
The ECTC is a driver of cardiovascular and thoracic research across the region and is developing as an internationally recognised research unit, exploring:
- interventional cardiology
- cardiac electrophysiology
- cardiovascular and thoracic surgery
- perfusion
- anaesthetics.
Our units are staffed by GCP trained research nurses, research fellows and clinical research practitioners who work collaboratively with clinicians, clinical nurse specialists and allied healthcare professionals. They are able to support participants through their research journey from consent to treatment and/or intervention and follow up.
We are able to support a range of studies from phase two onwards, and have a proven record of delivery of high quality robust clinical trials, gaining recognition particularly for our delivery of Covid-19 studies during the pandemic. This makes us highly sought after by research organisations seeking collaboration.
