Pilot programme for Broomfield Hospital

We welcome students to the department to gain an insight to the roles of the research team. We aim to make the experience as informative and as insightful as possible. The time in the department is spent shadowing members of staff on their daily duties including screening and recruiting patients and completing the necessary paperwork and data entry.

By the end of the placement students will have a knowledge of GCP, research ethics, the consent process and the importance of research within the NHS.

Students are encouraged to ask questions from various members of the team as the whole team works because we all have different skills and knowledge to benefit their experience.

We have had lots of positive feedback from our previous week long placements such as the following:

I really enjoyed working with the research cardiology team where we mat a lady on the ward within the hospital who consented to take part in a research study. The team were very professional and had excellent communication skills and gave detailed information as to what the study entailed. Although I only spent 5 days with the research team the staff were helpful and were always willing to teach. I have more knowledge about research and how the nurses and team members collaborate. It would be helpful if students in their final year could have a longer placement with the team so they could gain more knowledge and new skills towards their qualification as a registered nurse.
