Children's Burns ward given a magical Disney makeover for Christmas

This Christmas, a housekeeper on the Children’s Burns ward at Broomfield Hospital, has been putting a smile on the faces of patients and their families with her hand drawn, festive Disney displays.

Steph Fisher, from Chelmsford, who has worked at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust for 18 months, drew all the designs freehand, with colleague Sonia Packer, Ward Domestic, and the rest of the team to getting involved and to help bring the 100 years of Disney-themed images to life.

Steph said: “The children and their parents love seeing all the different characters we’ve created; it really cheers them up. Hearing a child say ‘Mummy, look at that!’ as they walk down the corridor and see each window really brings a smile to my face. I love drawing, I spent eight years studying art at college and university.”

Tanya Courtney, Senior Sister, Children’s Burns ward, said: “It might seem like a simple thing, but these paintings make a huge difference to our ward. We try and make it seem as non-clinical as we can for our families and it’s not just the children that love them, the staff do too.”
