£13,200 donation will help benefit cancer patients

Affinity cancer donation

The lives of cancer patients are set to be improved thanks to a generous £13,233.46 donation.

The money was raised for Southend Hospital by local mortgage brokerage Affinity Group, which held a fundraising ball earlier this year.

Lydia Ndlovu, lead colorectal nurse, said: “As a centre for complex pelvic surgery we’ll be using some of this kindly donated money to buy a special surgical light, which will greatly improve tissue recognition during colorectal surgery.”

The Colorectal Oncology department is a place close to the hearts of many at the company as it treated and continues to care for one of their clients, Greg Carrier, who was diagnosed with stage 3 bowel cancer in March 2021 at the age of 39.

Managing director at Affinity, Jamie Lewis, said: “Supporting Southend Hospital is always such pleasure, as most of our ball guests were Southend-based business associates, friends and family of Affinity. For us all to enjoy a wonderful evening of entertainment, whilst raising such a terrific amount for our local hospital that we have all used and will continue to use is just wonderful.”

Community fundraising manager for Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity, Kayley Donovan, said: “We are very grateful to have had Affinity’s continued support over the years and appreciate this enormously generous donation towards our colorectal oncology fund.”
