The ENT department provides care for patients with a variety of ear, nose and throat problems, including the following:

Basildon Hospital - Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT)

The Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Department provides surgical and medical treatment for people with conditions of the head and neck, ears, nose and throat.

GPs can contact on-call medical staff via switchboard and then refer the patient to the ward, with a letter.

Broomfield Hospital - Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT)

Overview

The ENT department is part of the Essex ENT network and Broomfield Hospital is the hub for inpatient services for all ENT emergencies across the region, and head and neck cancer services. The network involves 12 ENT Consultants from four Trusts, MEHT, Southend, Basildon and Princess Alexandra. 

Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) - The ENT Department is led by three Consultants and provides a comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic service ranging from the diagnosis and treatment of conditions of the ear, nose and throat to complex management of head and neck carcinomas requiring extensive surgery and airway management. The department also provides airway management advice and intervention for specialties such as Intensive Care.


Services 

Audiology - The Audiology Department provides a comprehensive range of audiological tests and a service for the long term management and rehabilitation of people with a hearing impairment. This includes co-ordination of the NHS Hearing Aids Programme.

Oral and Maxillofacial - The Oral and Maxillofacial Department is led by a Consultant who is supported by a number of middle junior grade doctors. Outpatient clinics and local anaesthetic treatment is undertaken at Broomfield. Operations requiring general anaesthetic are undertaken at Broomfield. The department has close links with the plastic surgery and oncology departments.

Orthodontics - An Orthodontic Consultant provides a comprehensive service for the diagnosis and treatment of patients referred with congenital and acquired conditions of the jaw and face. Emergency admissions are allocated beds as available through the bed management team. Outpatient services are provided at Broomfield Hospital with full dental surgery assistant support.
