Service overview - Ear nose and throat (ENT)

The ENT department is part of the Essex ENT network and Broomfield Hospital is the hub for inpatient services for all ENT emergencies and head and neck cancer services across the region.

We provide a full diagnostic and therapeutic service ranging from the diagnosis and treatment of conditions of the ear, nose and throat to complex management of head and neck carcinomas needing extensive surgery and airway management.

The ENT department provides care for patients with a variety of ear, nose and throat problems, including the following:

Video appointments

Many of our services offer video calls as a more convenient way of having an appointment with one of our healthcare professionals. This reduces the need for you to attend the hospital physically.

Ear services

We offer the following ear-specific services:

  • ENT-related allergy problems
  • Hearing loss
  • Chronic discharging ear
  • Balance and hearing disorders
  • Ear noise (tinnitus)
  • Insertion of grommets
  • Medical and surgical treatment of deafness
  • Plastic surgeries on ear (Pinna plasty)
  • Hearing aids including bone anchored hearing aids.

Our audiology department offers a full range of services for people of all ages who have hearing difficulties, balance disorders, and associated problems.

Complex head and neck cancer services and major inpatient surgery are centralised at Broomfield Hospital and work closely with Oral and Maxillofacial outpatients for treatment after surgery.

Jaw and face services

Our orthodontics team provides a comprehensive service for the diagnosis and treatment of patients referred with congenital and acquired conditions of the jaw and face.

We also offer an outpatient service with full dental surgery assistant support.

GPs can contact on-call medical staff via switchboard and then refer the patient to the ward, with a letter.

Southend
