The multidisciplinary team (MDT)

At the St Andrew's Centre, our dedicated burns multidisciplinary team (MDT) provides comprehensive care to support every aspect of a patient’s recovery.

The team consists of specialists from various fields, each contributing their expertise to deliver the highest standards of care.

Burns consultants

Our burns consultants are specialist doctors who lead the surgical treatment of burn injuries. They collaborate with a team of doctors to ensure optimal care for every patient.

Anaesthetic consultants

These doctors are responsible for your comfort and safety during surgical procedures. They manage anaesthesia to help you sleep during surgery and are experts in post-operative pain management.

Burns nurses

Our nursing team is highly skilled in caring for patients with burns or conditions involving skin loss. They manage wound dressings and oversee your general health and wellbeing during your hospital stay.

Burns therapists – occupational and physiotherapists

Our therapists support your rehabilitation by ensuring your joints remain functional, allowing you to perform essential daily activities. They also help manage scarring and maintain mobility after injury.

Burns dietitian

Burns can significantly affect nutritional needs. Our dietitians assess each patient’s requirements and provide tailored dietary plans to support recovery and healing.

Psychological therapies

Burn injuries can be emotionally challenging. Our team of psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, and a mental health nurse offer psychological support to help patients cope with the mental and emotional impact of their injury.

Pharmacist

Our pharmacist works closely with the medical team to ensure that patients receive the most appropriate medication regimen during their stay, optimising pain management and recovery.

Support staff

You may also interact with a variety of support staff, including ward hosts who manage meal services, domestic staff, and housekeepers, all of whom contribute to the smooth running of the ward and your overall comfort.
