Occupational therapy

Occupational therapy can help you if an illness, injury or surgery makes daily life harder. We will work with you to help you learn or get back the skills you need to do everyday tasks, even if your body or thinking has changed.

We use simple, helpful ways to support you in doing daily tasks and activities that matter to you.

Where might you receive occupational therapy?

Occupational therapists (OTs) work across various departments within our trust. You might meet our occupational therapy teams in:

  • emergency departments
  • inpatient ward (including care rehabilitation units)
  • pre-operative assessment clinics
  • your home—either after being discharged from hospital or to help prevent a hospital admission.

Every patient’s situation is different, so therapy will be suited for individual needs and circumstances. We will help patients to stay as active as possible.

This can be at home or in a hospital setting. And if the patient is staying in our hospitals, we will opt for the safest way to discharge from hospital.
