Top surgery training award is good news for patients

Broomfield Hospital has been named Training Hospital of the Year 2025 by the East of England Trauma and Orthopaedics Surgery Programme.
It’s the first time the hospital has won this award, which is voted for by resident doctors across the region, it recognises hospitals that offer top-quality teaching and support to future orthopaedic surgeons.
And for patients, they can be reassured that the consultants are doing a great job for patients but also in training future surgeons.
Mr Shahrier Sarker, Educational Lead for Trauma & Orthopaedics, said: “This award is great news for staff and patients alike. Research has shown that good trainers are first and foremost good doctors and good training goes hand in hand with excellent patient care. Training good doctors means better care for all patients, now and in the future."
Every year, Broomfield Hospital welcomes four trainees from the East of England and two from London. These trainees work with expert consultants who guide them through complex and challenging surgical cases using the latest techniques.
Miss Rumina Begum, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, said: “Trainees in the region now all want to come to this hospital as part of their rotations. They recognise the skills of the trainers and the fact that we offer a variety of complex and challenging cases with both current and innovative techniques.”
