Thousands of hospital patients to be delivered presents on Christmas Day

Patients in hospital on Christmas Day will get a festive boost, thanks to the delivery of 3,000 gifts.

The presents will be handed out to patients across Basildon, Broomfield and Southend hospitals, spreading some festive cheer.

The gifts, which include puzzles, snacks and toiletries, have been funded by Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity, with support from the League of Friends Basildon and Friends at Broomfield.

Sharon McNally, Interim Chief Nursing Officer for the Trust, said: "No one wants to be in hospital on Christmas Day, but we hope these gifts, though small, have a big impact, helping lift spirits and show patients that they are supported during their time with us.

“It’s a wonderful way to bring the magic of Christmas into our hospitals and support patient wellbeing."

Clair Grayston, Senior Charity Manager for Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity, said: "This is something we’re incredibly proud to do every year. Making this delivery of gifts to patients helps create a brighter Christmas for those spending it in hospital, during what can be a difficult time for many."
