Public invited to showcase of NHS innovation and care

Staff members at last year's Marketplace

Those interested in finding out more about the new Southend Emergency Department extension, the upcoming Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs) and the latest innovations and improvements in patient care, will be able to attend an event at Southend Hospital next month.

On Tuesday 30 September, from 3pm – 5pm, a ’marketplace’ of activities and stalls will take place at hospital’s Education Centre, showcasing some of the most exciting developments from across Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, which also runs Basildon and Broomfield hospitals.

Visitors can explore interactive stalls and demos, including the Burns Bus - a mobile clinic bringing specialist care closer to home - and cutting-edge radiotherapy tech will also be featured that delivers faster, more targeted cancer treatment. The Innovation team will offer virtual reality hospital tours, while the Sustainability stall shares updates on the Trust’s Green Plan.

Those attending can get updates about the four CDCs in Southend, Thurrock, Pitsea and Braintree, designed to bring vital scans and tests into the heart of local communities. Staff will be on hand to answer questions and share how these centres will benefit thousands.

The Trust’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) will begin at 5.15pm , featuring updates on performance, finances, and future priorities. Presentations will cover advances in robotic surgery, acute medicine, and highlights from the Innovation Fellowship programme. Spaces for the AGM are limited, so please register now at www.mse.nhs.uk/annual-general-meeting

Andy Wood, OBE, Chair of the Trust, said: “I’m really looking forward to this year’s Annual General Meeting and Marketplace, which will provide a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the dedication and successes of our colleagues and hear about the changes making a real difference to patient care. We’re proud of what our teams have achieved and we look forward to sharing it with the local community.”
