Ahead of World Cancer Day (Sunday 4 February) we spoke to nursing and support staff at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust to get a snapshot of the care and support they help provide to patients during their cancer journey.

February is National Heart Month and a team that has helped improve the lives of over 340 patients has been shortlisted for a Global Cardiovascular Award.

Ahead of World Cancer Day (February 4) a cancer patient who is still receiving treatment at Southend Hospital is hosting a unique photography and story exhibition to put the focus on exploring how the experience of cancer has impacted people.

New reclining chairs are helping increase patient comfort, after almost £6,000 funding from Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity donations.

The iconic 70s rock band, Dr Feelgood, took to the stage at the Palace Theatre in Westcliff for a special charity gig in support of Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation's Spotlight Radiotherapy appeal. Pedal power is king at Basildon Hospital as the 100th staff member has now received a free bike, as part of a successful scheme by local councils in collaboration with the NHS.

It's been an eventful year for Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. Despite numerous challenges, the staff across all hospitals within the Trust have remained focussed on providing excellent patient care. While doing so, they have also been recognised for their achievements with awards celebrated throughout the year. As the year draws to a close, we look back at some of the accolades won by the Trust and its staff.

This year, Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust has supported the births of more than 10,000 babies; seen over 375,000 attendances at its Emergency Departments; made nearly 300,000 admissions to its hospitals; and have held more than 1.5million outpatient appointments.
