Do you know a member of staff or a team from Basildon, Broomfield and Southend hospitals, or those working at the other community hospital sites, who shines in their job?

More than 600 people do - and they have already nominated hardworking hospital staff for an award to thank them for making a difference to the lives of patients.

But don’t assume that means the staff who have given you excellent care have already been nominated. There are just under two weeks to go until the closing deadline of 11.59pm on Sunday 26 April to submit your nominations for this year’s Shine Awards.

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust’s annual staff awards ceremony helps put the spotlight on an individual or team that has helped you or a loved one over the last 12 months.

Some of last year’s winners have been speaking about what being nominated meant to them.

The Stroke unit at Broomfield Hospital won the Making a Difference award after being nominated by the family of a young mum they supported through palliative care.

Bonnie Slade, Medical Matron for Stroke, said:

It's about feeling valued and getting recognition for everything you've done or you're doing. We're working under pressure all the time, so just to show a team or an individual that they are appreciated, recognised and valued, I think it goes a really long way.

Her colleague, Annie Pateman, Senior Sister for the Stroke unit, added:

I think it’s great for staff morale. It shows that you do make a difference and that you can be rewarded for it in some way.

If you know someone who deserves to be recognised this year, you can choose from 10 categories, including: Volunteer of the Year, Leadership, Partnership, Patient Champion, Rising Star, Spotlight, Making a Difference, Improving Value, Outstanding Achievement (Individual), and Outstanding Achievement (Team).
