Month-long marathon mission will make for a Merry Christmas for hospital children
A 21-year-old from Danbury is putting his best feet forward for a festive challenge with a big heart, running a half marathon every single day from 24 November to Christmas Eve to raise money for the Children’s ward at Broomfield Hospital.
Harry Squires will run 31 half marathons in 31 days - that’s just over 400 miles - to raise £1,000 to help buy presents for those staying in hospital over the Christmas period, helping make it a brighter time for children spending the holidays in hospital.
He’ll cover 13.1 miles each day around Danbury and Chelmsford, running through local parks and the town centre and explained why the challenge is a personal one.
Harry said: “As a child I was treated for epilepsy by some of the paediatric teams at Broomfield Hospital, so I wanted to give something back. I can’t wait to get started! I’ve been a keen runner for just over two years now. At a time when I needed it, running gave me something to focus on.”
No stranger to running challenges he’s already run the entire length of Luxembourg this year and run from Chelmsford to Cardiff in just six days.
Clair Dade, Fundraising Coordinator at the Mid and South Essex Hospital’s Charity, said: “He’s pushing his limits and spreading joy to children at Broomfield Hospital. We’re so grateful for his support.”
Harry’s inviting others to join him, cheer him on, or donate to his fundraising efforts, which you can find out more about here: www.justgiving.com/page/harry-squires-2.
