The future’s bright – or perhaps that should be brighter – at Southend and Basildon hospitals thanks to a light replacement scheme that will help improve hospital environments and save money.

The Trust have been awarded almost £3 million (£2,961,000) by NHS England to replace old and inefficient lighting at the two hospitals, with energy efficient LED lights.

Lisa Cruz Rocha, Head of Business Development Unit, said: “This project is part of our commitment to running sustainable and energy efficient hospitals. It is expected to reduce energy consumption and costs by £935k a year at Southend Hospital and £760k a year at Basildon Hospital.”

All work is expected to be completed by early summer and follows a similar project at Broomfield Hospital in 2022.

Brighter more efficient lighting provides patients with a safer, more appealing environment as well as helping to save the planet.
