Hospital thanks are on the menu for chip shop owner
Dedicated staff at Southend Hospital are frying high after being given £2,000 in food vouchers by a local chippy.
Bradley Oldham, owner of Oldham’s of Westcliff, served up the vouchers in appreciation for the Emergency Department (ED) staff and a thanks for all they do for the local community.
He said: “Being local to the hospital we often get customers coming in to buy fish and chips for themselves or relatives. We all know how much pressure hospital staff are under every day, especially in the ED, so I wanted to give something back to say thanks. This little gift hopefully lifts spirits for a moment, and everyone loves chips!”
The £20 vouchers have now been shared among ED nurses, doctors and support staff and were passed onto them after the donation came via Mid and South Essex Hospital’s Charity.
Carrie Dixon, Head of Nursing for ED, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Bradley and his family for thinking of our team. Working in the ED is fast-paced and demanding, and gestures like this make a real difference and give us a real boost.”
