Hospital patients will be seen more quickly thanks to new expansion

expansion for outpatients

A new two-storey outpatients building has opened its doors at Southend Hospital, helping to speed up care.

The new area will welcome an extra 200 patients a week who need treatment, diagnosis or a procedure, but don’t need to stay in hospital overnight - all of which will help reduce waiting times. Vivienne Brailsford, main outpatients manger said: “We’ve had a huge demand for extra outpatient space, and this new area will have an immediate effect on waiting times.

“This is a fantastic space, meaning we can deliver a better service to patients and they will receive their care in a much more welcoming, nicer area.”

The new £1.2 million expanded building features 14 consulting rooms, a waiting area and seven offices, providing extra outpatient space to that already in place at the hospital.

Initially the space is being used for trauma and orthopaedics patients, but it will be a dedicated multi-purpose space for all outpatient specialties.
