Hospital innovations and patient care take centre stage

Deputy Mayor talking to Essex Cardiothoracic Centre staff

Staff and volunteers supporting patients at Basildon, Broomfield and Southend hospitals have showcased their work and achievements at a special Marketplace event.

The Deputy Mayor of Basildon, Councillor Damion Lewis, joined members of the public and Trust Governors at the annual event, held this year at Basildon Hospital alongside the Trust's Annual General Meeting (AGM).

They discovered some of the latest developments across Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust and how local NHS services are evolving.

Cllr Lewis said: "I was so impressed by the level of enthusiasm and dedication from staff and volunteers across the Trust. Some of the medical teams were inspiring as they spoke about the work they do to save lives. I was heartened to hear about the opportunities for internships and apprenticeships for people with learning difficulties, helping them on a journey to employment."

Displays included state-of-the-art medical equipment, initiatives to support and develop staff, projects delivering social value and improvements designed to make patient care more efficient.

Andy Wood OBE, Chair of the Trust, said: "This year's AGM and Marketplace captured the dedication, innovation and collaboration that can be found across our Trust. It was wonderful to see so many teams showcasing their work and highlighting the positive impact they are having on patients, families and communities across mid and south Essex."

The Marketplace was followed by the official Annual General Meeting. Presentations were given on the Trust's performance over the past year and reflections on priorities for the future.
