Fruit box delivery outside one of the hospital wards

Throughout the pandemic, deliveries of fast food or chocolates have been donated to hardworking hospital staff to help keep them fed during their shifts. Now there is a healthy option, encouraging staff to give junk the boot and switch it for fruit.

It has been made possible thanks to several generous local groups and companies who have arranged for monthly fruit box deliveries across Southend, Basildon and Broomfield hospital sites.

In Southend, Leigh Lions Club have donated £2,400 to fund fresh fruit boxes for six months around 50 areas of the hospital.

Tim Watts, club president, said: “We appreciate the opportunity to support our frontline staff in the NHS, especially in these difficult times and given the amount of pressure they have been under for such a length of time.”

Also stepping up for Basildon Hospital were Barleylands Farm Shop from Billericay with their one off donation. Broomfield Hospital who gets its fresh fruit fix thanks to the Mid and South Essex Hospital Charity’s health and wellbeing campaign.
