A staff and volunteers’ awards for local hospitals has seen the most nominees in its six-year history.

More than 1,000 nominations have been made across ten categories for the Shine Awards, celebrating exceptional care by individuals and teams across Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust sites, which includes Broomfield, Basildon and Southend hospitals.

That beats the previous record of 731 in 2021.

Head Judge and Chief Executive for the Trust, Dawn Scrafield, said:

The overwhelming response highlights the deep appreciation felt by those who experience and witness the work of hospital staff and volunteers every day. I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to nominate.

It’s so great to see so many people supporting and nominating our amazing staff and volunteers and I’m looking forward to reading the personal stories. I get a real sense of pride seeing the truly remarkable care taking place right across our hospitals. It is always humbling to read these accounts and an honour to serve as Head Judge.

The nominations will now be carefully reviewed as part of the thorough judging process. This will create a longlist, which will be narrowed down to a shortlist ahead of the Shine Awards ceremony in October.
