Epic size of Community Diagnostic Centre revealed
After six weeks of the installation of almost 160 modular units by crane, the epic and exciting shape of things to come at Pitsea Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) can be finally seen.
It means that the 5,500 square metre building is a step closer to becoming the largest CDC and wellbeing centre for Essex.
Next, its bricklaying for the project, ground works, laying the floor and further internal works as the construction progress continues.
Due to open in summer 2027, this big community development is set to make an equally big difference once it welcomes it first visitors. It will bring a wide range of essential health tests and checks together in one convenient location, seven days a week, delivering 120,000 extra appointments each year.
Patients will be able to access MRI scans, endoscopy services, x-ray, ultrasound, heart and lung checks and blood tests - making it quicker and easier to get the care they need, closer to home.
That will help reduce waiting times, speed up diagnoses and ease pressure on hospitals across mid and south Essex.
The impressively sized building will also be home to a wider wellbeing centre. The activity centre will be brought back into the heart of Pitsea, creating a dedicated space for community groups, as well as providing a brand‑new library for everyone to enjoy.
This ambitious project is being delivered by MTX Contracts and is showcasing partnership working between Essex County Council, Basildon Council and the NHS.
Pitsea CDC is one of four new diagnostic centres being developed across mid and south Essex. Centres in Thurrock and Southend are already open, with Braintree CDC expected to open later this year.
