More than 70 Blood Sciences staff at Broomfield Hospital have now got better rest and meeting facilities after a complete refurbishment of their staff room.

The makeover covered the installation of a new kitchen and equipment, furniture, flooring and redecoration. It is for staff who carry out blood tests both at the hospital and GP surgeries in the surrounding area.

The project was made possible by a donation of £7,500 from Friends at Broomfield, with a further £7,000 from Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity.

Friends at Broomfield are a group of around 50 volunteers that provide a range of services and support to Broomfield Hospital. They have their own hospital shops at Broomfield and all profits generated are given back to the hospital. Since 1984 they’ve raised over £1.2 million.

Yvonne Carter, community fundraising officer at Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity, said: “This revamp has made a huge difference to the staff in this area; it’s now so much more welcoming, comfortable and user-friendly.

“As always, such support is greatly appreciated and allows the charity to fund so many important projects like this to enhance life at the hospital.”
