Doctor named regional Trainer of the Year
An Essex doctor has won a top award for helping to develop the next generation of clinicians.
Dr Priyantha Siriwardana, an Associate Specialist at Broomfield Hospital, was nominated for the East of England Trainer of the Year award by more than 40 colleagues for his dedication to supporting clinicians during their careers.
The award was part of the Specialist, Associate Specialist and Specialty (SAS) and Locally Employed Doctors (LED) East of England Recognition Awards, from Health Education England.
Dr Siriwardana said:
"It is a huge honour to receive this award, particularly knowing it came from nominations by colleagues and trainees. To be recognised across the East of England is very special, and I am proud that it also reflects the quality of education and support we provide for doctors at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust."
As a Clinical and Educational Supervisor, Dr Siriwardana has mentored medical students, trainees and international medical graduates to build their skills, confidence and professional experience.
Dr Emayanthi Emayakumaran, one of the colleagues who nominated Dr Siriwardana, said:
"Dr Siriwardana has had a lasting impact on me and many other resident doctors. His mentorship has not only helped us develop academically but has also strengthened our confidence and enthusiasm for lifelong learning.
“He is always approachable, generous with his time and creates an environment where junior doctors feel comfortable asking questions, contributing ideas and taking on new challenges with confidence.”
