Consultant Cardiologist is all heart as he wins national patient care award
A Consultant Cardiologist at Southend Hospital has been given an award for the excellent care he gave to a heart failure patient.
Dr Sajjad Mazhar is one of just five recipients of the You’re Simply Marvellous award, after being recognised for his ‘positive attitude, honesty, commitment and gentle humour’. He was nominated by one of his patients, and received a glass plaque and certificate for his achievement.
The awards take place once a year for medical professionals across the UK, shining a light on those who give exceptional quality of care to patients with heart failure.
Of his award, Dr Mazhar said: “To receive this from a patient nomination makes it really special, showing that patients are happy with the care we are giving them. At Southend we’ve only been fitting complex cardiac devices to improve the lives of patients since September 2022, so to get this recognition at a national level means an awful lot.”
Heart failure is a life-threatening condition in which the heart cannot pump enough blood around the body and the awards are sponsored by the Pumping Marvellous Foundation, a charity who offer support to people with heart failure, as well as their families and friends.
