A maternity support worker has been awarded the Chief Midwifery Officer Award for Compassion, highlighting their outstanding care and kindness.

Becky Dainty has worked at Basildon Hospital for 16 years and received the honour, which celebrates individuals who go above and beyond to support women, babies, and families, from NHS England’s Wendy Matthews, who is Regional Chief Midwife for the East of England.

Becky said: “I feel incredibly honoured to receive this award. Supporting young parents is something I’m truly passionate about, and I’m grateful to work with such a dedicated team.”

She was nominated for the prestigious award by Sarah Soanes, Women’s and Children’s Patient Experience Lead, for helping young families feel supported and prepared throughout their maternity journey.

Sarah said: “I remember one young mum who was feeling overwhelmed and unsure about coming to her appointment. Becky took the time to sit with her, listen, and reassure her. That small act made a huge difference and helped the mum feel safe and supported.”
