Angling group has netted over £34,000 for cancer patients
World Cancer Day is on 4 February, and over the last 11 years members of the Prittlewell and District Angling Society (PADAS) have reeled in tens of thousands of pounds for Southend Hospital.
Their latest haul was presented in the form a £1,230 cheque to Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity, which will go to the Radiotherapy Fund to help provide new Surface Guided Radiation Therapy, making cancer treatment more comfortable for patients.
PADAS hold regular charity fishing matches - a tradition started in 2015 by former member Paul Rashbrook after losing his mum, Dianne, and later his father‑in‑law, Duncan, to cancer.
Although Paul has since moved away, the group have proudly continued the fundraising in his honour.
Clair Dade, Fundraising co‑ordinator for the charity, praised the group’s long‑standing commitment. She said: “Our supporters from PADAS are incredibly humble about the fundraising they’ve taken on for us, but since 2015 they have raised more than £34,000 to support patients undergoing cancer treatment at Southend Hospital. We are beyond thankful for the incredible support they continue to provide.”
