Adult Speech and Language Therapy (SALT)

Two people sitting on a bench talking

The Adult Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) services offer specialist assessments to help diagnose swallowing and voice difficulties, including:

  • Videofluoroscopy
  • Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES)
  • Endoscopic Evaluation of the Larynx (EELs).

These difficulties can have numerous and varied causes and can be relatively complex to manage. Our assessments help us to identify issues and plan for treatment and future management of any difficulties.

The service currently operates differently across each hospital. We all work with the patient and wider multidisciplinary teams to offer advice, training and education to patients, carers and families.
