Community steps out as seafront walkers raise thousands for local hospitals

From toddlers in pushchairs to residents with walking aids, eventers of all ages took to Southend’s seafront on Sunday for the annual fundraising event – Walk for Wards.
Now in its tenth year, the 7km event, organised by Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity, saw over 110 taking part, looking to raise over £10,000 for 25 patient areas across Southend, Basildon and Broomfield hospitals.
The seafront was filled with community spirit, colour and energy as supporters walked in support of the wards and departments that have made a difference to their lives.
Each walker received a medal at the finish line as a thank you for their fundraising efforts and commitment to supporting local NHS services.
Lucy Thomas-Clayton, Director of Charity and Voluntary Services at the Trust, said: “It’s been fantastic to see so many of our supporters back for another year of Walk for Wards. Being such a fun and family-friendly day, it’s by far one of our most popular events.
“Once again, our local community’s support has overwhelmed us and it’s always wonderful to see our regular participants as well as the first timers that have made the effort and commitment to raise funds for their local hospital. Our thanks go out to every one of them, the response never fails to amaze us.
“I’d also like to thank our event supporters Adventure Island, their ongoing support of our charity and hospitals is something we are extremely grateful for.”
